YouVersion Launches Bible Loop App for Teens

YouVersion has launched Bible Loop, a free app for teenagers built in partnership with OneHope, and it has already been installed more than 1 million times worldwide. The app is now available worldwide in English, Spanish, Portuguese and French on Android and iOS.
Bible Loop: A Free App for Teens
Bible Loop is the newest app in the YouVersion Family of Apps, created with OneHope, a Florida-based ministry founded in 1987 that shares God's Word with children and youth worldwide. The app is free, and teens can download it now at youversion.com/bible-loop.
Bobby Gruenewald, YouVersion founder and CEO, told The Christian Post that Bible Loop began last year as a test in India, where YouVersion was seeing strong engagement with the Bible App for Kids. The team wanted to see how they could build on that for older children.
"Bible Loop began last year as a test in India, where we were seeing strong engagement with the Bible App for Kids and wanted to see how we could build on it," Gruenewald explained.
"We began rolling it out in other parts of the world and the engagement we saw from teens was encouraging. We recently launched it in the United States, and it's now available worldwide in four languages."
Verse Memorisation Game and Daily Check-Ins
Bible Loop has two features that set it apart from the rest of the YouVersion Family of Apps, according to Gruenewald: "a verse memorization game and Daily Check-Ins."
"The verse memorization game helps make daily Scripture a habit and has an anonymous leaderboard for a little friendly competition," Gruenewald told The Christian Post.
"With Daily Check-Ins, teens share how they're feeling that day so they can engage with relevant devotional content. Together, they're meant to help teens connect with God's Word in a way that feels personal."
The app also offers a Verse of the Day and Daily Prayers, and Learning Loops will add interactive lessons from partners teens love and trust. Bible text is available in more than 50 versions across 10 languages.
Why Teens Need a Different Kind of Bible App
Gruenewald said teenagers are an important part of YouVersion's goal of "reaching everyone, everywhere with God's Word," and the app was built for a stage of life when independence is growing and habits are forming.
"We care about helping people of every age build healthy daily habits in Scripture," Gruenewald said. "Bible Loop has more than one million installs worldwide so far, which suggests the need we recognized isn't unique to one region of the world."
"Our hope is that it helps teens build daily rhythms in Scripture and prayer that make a real difference now and well into the future, and that it can serve youth leaders and parents as they lead teens closer to God through His Word."
The research behind the app points to a real gap. In a recent US study, OneHope found that Gen Alpha, whose oldest members are now teens, spends an average of 4 hours and 6 minutes online every day.
A 2021 OneHope study with Barna found that while 88% of engaged Christian parents of children aged 6 to 9 reported their children engaging with the Bible weekly, engagement dropped to 73% for children aged 10 to 12. That dip suggests Scripture habits begin to slip before the teen years even start.
"OneHope's research shows that the preteen years are critical for spiritual development, yet this is often when intentional discipleship at home begins to decline. That's why Bible Loop is so essential today. We're meeting the next generation where they are, helping preteens engage meaningfully with God's Word and build habits that lay a foundation for a lifelong relationship with Jesus," said Rob Hoskins, co-founder and president of OneHope.
OneHope and YouVersion: A Partnership Built on Research
YouVersion partnered with OneHope because of the ministry's experience reaching young people. Since 1987, OneHope has shared God's Word with more than 2 billion children and youth, partnering with local churches around the world.
The wider YouVersion Family of Apps has been installed on more than one billion devices worldwide.
A Million Installs and a Generation to Reach
The hunger for Scripture among young people is showing up in more places than app stores. Believers keep walking together too, from Haitian Christians Pilgrimage Ohio Today: 40-Mile Walk From Springfield to Columbus Ahead of Reformation Sunday to 80,000 Christians Pack AT&T Stadium for Night of Prayer: Is America Waking Up?.
The open question is whether a million installs turn into daily habits. Bible Loop was built for teenagers who spend four hours a day online, and its makers hope it can make God's Word an important part of that day.
The installs are in. What happens next depends on the teens holding the phones.
