UK Revival 2026: 550 People Baptized in the North Sea at Bridlington

Hundreds of Christians baptized in the North Sea at Bridlington, East Yorkshire, in October 2026
Around 550 people walked into the freezing North Sea at Bridlington on October 10, 2026, to be baptized — one of Britain's largest mass baptisms in living memory.

The water was freezing. In mid-October the North Sea off Bridlington doesn't ask permission — it bites. But on Saturday, October 10, 2026, hundreds of people walked in anyway, shivering and singing, to be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ.

Organizers say around 550 people were baptized that day — one of the largest mass baptisms Britain has seen in living memory. The gathering was pulled together by Merlin Kraft, the man behind the Christian channel BibleLadUK, working with local ministers. People travelled from Scotland, Ireland and Wales, and from every corner of England.

Kraft spent the day in the water baptizing person after person. Afterwards he said his arm was "absolutely killing me" — and called what happened on the beach "absolutely unbelievable."

"Something is happening in Britain. People are coming to Jesus Christ, and we are witnessing something truly extraordinary…. All glory to Jesus Christ." — Merlin Kraft, BibleLadUK

What happened at the Bridlington baptism on October 10 2026

The event grew from something small. In June, Kraft posted a video of a baptism he had attended on his BibleLadUK channel. The messages he recieved flooded in — followers asking if they could be baptised like this — and with the support of his pastor at Calvary Chapel Plymouth, he arranged a beach baptism at Jennycliff in Plymouth, where 28 people were baptized.

He filmed that too, and the response was even bigger. In September, 170 people turned up at Bigbury-on-Sea in Devon after a single online invitation — Kraft had privately guessed the number might be thirty. Bridlington was the answer for the northerners who couldn't make it down to Devon, and the requests kept coming until the beach was packed.

On the day, film crews captured testimonies in the water: a man who credits God with saving his life after a serious brain injury, couples who travelled across the country to declare their faith, and people speaking of suffering, healing, repentance and redemption. Steve Kalclash of Iron Trinity Clothing, reporting for UTK Media, filmed the baptisms and called the atmosphere extraordinary.

Who is Merlin Kraft, the man behind BibleLadUK

Kraft is not a celebrity pastor with a megachurch. He is an outdoors YouTuber — walking, hiking, boating, camping — whose Christian videos began drawing a crowd he never expected. When his Instagram pages filled with young people asking for baptism, he simply put out an online invitation: no tickets, no charge, no booking — just come.

"I don't pretend to know exactly what is happening in Britain, but something definitely is," he told Premier Christianity after the Bigbury event. What struck him most at Bridlington, he says, wasn't the numbers but the ordinary people — many who never grew up in church, some from genuinely difficult backgrounds, others who discovered Christianity through social media and started reading their Bibles at home.

"I've spoken to people whose lives have been completely turned around by Jesus Christ. People who've struggled with addiction, people who've been at rock bottom, and others who have simply been searching for answers." Kraft is pushing every person baptized toward a local church, because, he says, baptism is only the beginning of their walk with Christ — the same hunger that saw 800 people turn to Christ in Manchester at a Franklin Graham event earlier this year.

Is the UK revival 2026 real — what the numbers say

Skeptics will ask whether crowds on a beach equal revival. What happened within days of Bridlington suggests something is sticking: church ministers across the north of England wrote to Kraft that a steady stream of the newly baptized were now attending their churches. That kind of follow-through is what separates a moment from a movement.

The pattern isn't isolated to Yorkshire. In June, fourteen churches around Bournemouth worked together to baptize 92 people in the sea — then came Jennycliff, then Bigbury, then Bridlington, each bigger than the last and each organized online, outside any denomination's central planning. France is seeing its own baptism surge, and a landmark 2026 study found two in three UK Christians are now evangelicals.

Faith in Britain is increasingly public as well. While hundreds waded into the North Sea, UK Christians gathered 27,000 signatures fighting street preaching bans — the same country, the same year, Christians refusing to keep quiet. Kraft himself won't declare a revival — as he puts it, only time will tell whether Britain is witnessing the beginning of something bigger.

When is the next mass baptism in the UK

For those asking, Kraft has already announced the next one: New Year's Eve, December 31, 2026, in Cornwall. Plans are still being worked through and the event isn't fully confirmed, with a provisional meet around 12 noon and baptisms at 1pm. A pastor from Redruth Baptist Church in Cornwall has already offered to support the day, including follow-up discipleship for new believers.

The formula will be the same: no registration, no forms, no need to book — just turn up. "Whether you've recently become a Christian or you've been following Jesus for years but haven't yet been baptised, you're welcome," Kraft wrote on his Substack.

Whether the crowds return in the depths of winter is the open question. If freezing water in October didn't stop 550 people, what does that say about the hunger out there? The answer will be written on a Cornish beach, in the cold, on the last day of the year.
