COGIC 118th Holy Convocation Brings $250M to St. Louis

The Church of God in Christ has returned to St. Louis for its 118th Holy Convocation, themed Answering The Call, with a projected $250 million regional economic impact.

The Church of God in Christ has returned to St. Louis this week for its 118th Annual Holy Convocation, themed "Answering The Call," running from 3 to 10 November 2026 at the America's Center Convention Complex. Delegates and attendees from all 50 American states and numerous nations are gathering for the denomination's largest annual event.

One week of church can move a whole city. Explore St. Louis projects the convocation will generate $250 million in regional economic impact over the next three years, filling hotels, restaurants and shops across the region. That is the scale of what happens when one of America's oldest Pentecostal denominations comes to town.

Answering the Call in St. Louis

The Holy Convocation is the largest attended event of the Church of God in Christ, known as COGIC.

The week at America's Center, 701 Convention Plaza, features worship services, preaching, music, auxiliary meetings and the official business sessions of the church. Many services are streamed live on Facebook, YouTube and cogic.org for those who cannot attend in person.

The online audience is enormous. Last year, online and streaming audiences on Facebook, YouTube and cogic.org totalled more than 3.2 million views.

For a denomination rooted in the storefront churches and brush arbors of the early twentieth century, that number says something about how far its message now travels.

"St. Louis has welcomed the Church Of God In Christ with open arms, and we are grateful to return to this great city," said Bishop J. Drew Sheard, Presiding Bishop and Chief Apostle of the Church of God in Christ. "When our saints gather for Holy Convocation, we come to worship, to be renewed and to answer the call God has placed on our lives. We also come as good neighbors."

A $250 Million Week for One City

The $250 million figure comes from Explore St. Louis, the city's tourism body, and it covers the impact of the convocation over the next three years. Delegates travelling from every state and many nations are expected to benefit hotels, restaurants, transportation providers, retailers and other local businesses throughout the region.

Sheard made the point himself. "We are proud that our presence strengthens the local economy and supports the families and businesses of this region," he said, "and we look forward to a powerful week of ministry here in St. Louis and with millions more joining us online around the world."

It is a striking picture: a church gathering that doubles as one of the biggest events on a city's calendar. The saints come to pray, and the city counts the receipts.

A Church With Deep Roots

COGIC is one of the oldest Pentecostal denominations in the world. It was founded in 1907 by Bishop Charles Harrison Mason and is headquartered in Memphis, Tennessee, home of the Historic Mason Temple. Under the leadership of Presiding Bishop J. Drew Sheard, the church serves more than 12,000 churches in 106 countries through ministry, education, evangelism and community outreach.

That history matters to the people in the seats this week. Mason built the denomination from a small band of believers in the Jim Crow South into a global church, and the convocation has been its annual heartbeat for over a century.

The 118th gathering is not a new idea. It is a very old one, still drawing crowds.

The city has recieved the denomination before, and the welcome has been warm each time. St. Louis knows what the convocation brings: full hotels, busy restaurants, and a convention centre ringing with gospel music.

Health Fair Brings Care to the Convocation

The convocation is not only worship and business. A Global Health and Wellness Fair runs alongside it, with St. Louis provider Affinia Healthcare serving as a healthcare provider for the week.

Affinia Healthcare professionals are on site from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., from 4 to 7 November, providing A1C, blood pressure and cholesterol screenings, Medicaid enrollment help and flu shots.

A speaker panel series with Affinia Healthcare President and CEO Dr. Kendra Holmes runs on 4 and 5 November and is open to all attendees. It is a practical expression of the same faith the convocation celebrates: care for the body alongside care for the soul, offered free to the thousands passing through the Dome at America's Center.

The gathering fits a wider season of large Christian meetings drawing crowds across America.

A stadium night of prayer drew 80,000 in Texas, as reported in 80,000 Christians Pack AT&T Stadium for Night of Prayer: Is America Waking Up?, while students turned to Christ in large numbers at Nearly 600 Students Turn to Christ at University of South Alabama Worship Night and 700 Students Receive Christ at Appalachian State as Campus Revival Spreads. Worship music keeps filling rooms too, from JJ Hairston Unites Worship and Prayer in New Album to Dunsin Oyekan Plans Permanent Home for Upper Room.

Revival crowds keep gathering, from UniteUS South Alabama Revival: 596 Decisions and 52 Baptisms October 27 2026 to Mississippi Church Baptizes 59 After August Revival Reaches College Campus, and from Doctor Turned Evangelist's Tent Revival Baptizes 3,000 in One Year to Franklin Graham Sees Pockets of Revival After 800 Turn to Christ in Manchester. Farther afield, More Than 200 People Dedicate Lives to God at Zion Centre Revival in Dan Tloome South Africa, UK Revival 2026: 550 People Baptized in the North Sea at Bridlington and Thousands Baptized at Oceanside Beach: Inside the Movement San Diego Revival 2026 show the same hunger in different places.

The open question is what the delegates carry home when the week ends.

A convocation is a homecoming and a sending out at the same time: people arrive to worship together, and they leave to lead 12,000 churches in 106 countries. If the $250 million projection holds, St. Louis will remember this week in its ledgers. If the preaching holds, the delegates will remember it in their pulpits.

Either way, the saints have answered the call. Now the city watches what happens next.
