Latest: Global Bible Month 2026 Times Square Launch as 2.2 Million Sign Up for 30-Day Bible Challenge

Scripture filled giant screens in Times Square on the launch night of Global Bible Month 2026, Church Tech Today reports.

Natalie stood in Times Square with three friends on Sunday night, watching Scripture fill screens that usually sell phones and perfume. Natalie, 31, a tech programmer from New York, told EEW Magazine Online: “I feel inspired, excited and more fired up for evangelism than ever.” No surname is given for Natalie, and none is invented here.

Global Bible Month 2026 runs from 1 to 30 November 2026, with the 30-Day Bible Challenge at its centre, Church Tech Today reports. The month invites people to engage with God's Word every day in November, in a print Bible or in the Bible App, and it is the second year of the event. YouVersion launched the first Global Bible Month last November to mark 1 billion installs, Church Tech Today reports.

On Sunday night, 1 November, giant screens in Times Square showed Scripture, Bible App ads and campaigns from more than 30 ministry partners, Church Tech Today reports. The same displays appeared in London's Piccadilly Circus and the Dotonbori District in Osaka, Japan, both opened sources agree. EEW Magazine Online, reporting from the crowd, says that from 8 to 9 p.m., about 30 ministry partners and leaders were featured on the LED displays in Times Square.

The sign-up figure is the headline number, and it must stay attributed to YouVersion in every use. More than 2.2 million people have signed up for the 30-Day Bible Challenge so far this year, according to YouVersion, Church Tech Today reports. EEW gives the same figure as at 2 November, a YouVersion-reported total, not an independently audited count.

Global Bible Month Times Square Screens YouVersion

The screens themselves carried surprises, including humour that stopped passers-by. One Bible App ad read “Zero stars — would not recommend”, signed “Satan”, Church Tech Today reports from photos of the displays. Other screens ran in Portuguese, with a row of red billboards reading “Aceite o Desafio Bíblico de 30 Dias”, meaning “Accept the 30-Day Bible Challenge”, pointing readers to globalbiblemonth.com.

Partners featured on the screens included The Chosen, The Bible Recap, Alpha and 24-7 Prayer, named by YouVersion, Church Tech Today reports. Photos also show BibleProject, Gather, Life.Church, American Bible Society, Museum of the Bible, Cru, Christine Caine and Tauren Wells. Glorify and Hallow are not 2026 Times Square partners: EEW names them only for the 2025 launch.

Bobby Gruenewald, YouVersion Founder and CEO, said, in words quoted by Church Tech Today and kept short here: “This year, we've been encouraged by how many people are turning to Scripture for answers to their questions,” he said. “Global Bible Month is a huge opportunity to celebrate that and invite even more people to experience it for themselves, whether that's reading the Bible in their heart language for the first time or joining millions in the 30-Day Bible Challenge.”

Gruenewald was photographed in Times Square on 1 November, Church Tech Today reports.

The month-long reading challange asks for a simple daily habit, repeated for thirty days, rather than a single event. Churches can sign up at globalbiblemonth.com and encourage thirty days of reading, Church Tech Today reports. November 2026 has five Sundays, the first was launch day, and four remain, on 8, 15, 22 and 29 November, and 29 November is also the first Sunday of Advent, a scheduling note only.

YouVersion 2.2 Million Sign-Ups 30-Day Bible Challenge

EEW's eyewitness account from correspondent Elaine Peterson is presented as EEW's reporting, not as a verified crowd size. Peterson reported people hugging, crying and praying together, in an atmosphere electric with joy and prayer, EEW reports. No crowd size is claimed, because neither opened source gives a verified one, and the three-city displays are not claimed to have happened at the same hour.

The wider scale, reported by YouVersion through EEW, stays attributed throughout. YouVersion reports 18.5 million daily users worldwide, up more than 13 percent from 2025, with about 3,800 Bible versions in 2,400 languages, EEW reports. Daily use in sub-Saharan Africa rose 63 percent this year, EEW reports, with South Africa among the top five countries for daily engagement.

The two figures cover different periods and must not be read as like-for-like totals. The first challenge in 2025 drew more than 2.6 million people, and daily Bible use rose 19 percent over November 2024, according to YouVersion, EEW reports. The 2.6 million was a 2025 total; the 2.2 million is 2026 sign-ups so far by 2 November.

Familiar retailers are part of the movement too. Walmart, Hobby Lobby and Mardel are part of it, Church Tech Today and EEW both report, and neither source says they funded, hosted or endorsed anything beyond participation as stated. Global Bible Month is described as a movement of churches, ministries, Bible societies, publishers and retailers, not as a church or a denomination.

Four Sundays remain, and the screens have already gone dark in Times Square, but the daily reading has only just begun for the millions who signed up. Whether November ends with more people still reading than started it is the question the rest of the month will answer, one day, and one chapter, at a time.
