Muslim Converts to Christianity Testimony: Saudi Evangelist Who Lost 13 Teeth for Jesus

A lone figure prays in the desert at sunrise — the kind of surrender Ahmed Joktan describes after a dream of Jesus turned a Saudi Quran scholar toward Christ.

He memorized the entire Quran by age 13. He was supposed to follow generations of relatives into Islamic scholarship — his own father was a mufti. Then one night in a New Zealand hotel room, a man made of light walked into his dream and said, "Come to me."

Ahmed Joktan woke up terrified. He thought he had encountered a genie. What he had actually encountered, a Christian teacher would tell him the next morning, was Jesus — and the dream would cost him his family, his home, his family name, and thirteen of his teeth.

In an interview with The Christian Post published October 12, 2026, Joktan — now a Christian evangelist and founder of the Mecca to Christ ministry — looked back on the journey from Islam to Christianity and the violence that followed his conversion.

Muslim Converts to Christianity Testimony: The Dream That Started It All

Joktan was raised in a deeply religious Muslim household in Saudi Arabia. Christianity wasn't something he had considered, and certainly was never a faith he imagined embracing. After high school, he enrolled in medical school — but the coursework was taught in English, so he traveled to Auckland, New Zealand, to learn the language.

About two and a half months after arriving, the dream came. A man surrounded by an overwhelming light appeared and told him, "Come to me" — and showed him a distinct building with white pillars, where he was instructed to go to discover the truth. Joktan woke shaken. The next morning he told his English classmates, and his teacher, a Christian, said she believed the man he had seen was Jesus.

His limited English made that hard to grasp at first. But later that day, walking through Auckland, he stumbled on a building that looked identical to the one in his dream. It was a church. Inside, he met Pastor Brian Johnson, who spent three days teaching him about sin, salvation and the identity of Jesus.

Joktan initially resisted reading the Bible — he had been taught that Christian Scripture was corrupted. Then he read John 14:6, where Jesus declares Himself "the way, the truth, and the life." Something broke open. "To that I said yes," he told the Post, "not knowing what will happen next."

Jesus Dream Muslim Convert: From the Quran to John 14:6

What makes Joktan's testimoni sting is how thoroughly equipped he was against it. This was not a man searching for a new religion. He had the entire Quran memorized. He had the family pedigree, the scholarship, the certainty. The dream bypassed all of it — not with an argument, but with a building made of white pillars that turned out to be real.

He has told the story for years — his book From Mecca to Christ, first printed in 2020 — but the October interview gave it new reach. In September he spoke at AWAKE Houston alongside evangelist Michael Youssef, part of a ministry aimed at helping Christians understand Islam and share their faith without fear.

"The cost of believing in Jesus is real," Joktan told the Christian Post. "I have experienced that myself. I have scars on my face, on my back. I have lost 13 teeth because of that."

Thirteen teeth. Say it again, slowly. A beating for following Jesus that took thirteen teeth out of a man's mouth. And then this: "I was so excited to see the light that I did not count the cost."

The Cost: 13 Teeth, His Family, and His Name

The violence was only part of the price. Joktan's name was erased from his family's lineage — a formal severing, the kind of rejection that in his culture means you no longer exist to the people who raised you. He lost his home. He lost the future mapped out for him since childhood.

And yet, he says, he has never regretted it. "My name is now in the Book of Life," he told the Post. Erased from one book; written in another. It is the cleanest summary of conversion anyone has offered this year.

His story belongs to a wider wave of Muslim-background testimonies reaching the West. Actress Danica McKellar was led to Jesus by a friend's quiet witness; Russell Brand described surrendering his identity to Christ after 22 years of addiction; Jonathan Roumie keeps pointing a global audience back to Jesus. But few carry Joktan's particular wound — the convert who paid in teeth and blood and kept preaching anyway.

"The cost of believing in Jesus is real. I have experienced that myself. I have scars on my face, on my back. I have lost 13 teeth because of that." — Ahmed Joktan

His message to Western churches is blunt: stop being afraid of your Muslim neighbors. Start with your own testimony, he says. Build real relationships. Speak about Jesus with confidence and compassion — the way a teacher in Auckland once spoke to a frightened Saudi student about a dream.

A man who memorized the Quran by 13, beaten until thirteen teeth were gone, standing on stages telling Christians not to be afraid of a conversation. If the cost didn't silence him, what exactly are the rest of us afraid of — and who in our own lives is one honest testimony away from seeing the light?
